Deborah Cohen
German/English
Raised in a multilingual environment, Deborah has been working as a professional language teacher, academic translator and interpreter for more than 25 years. She founded the SPRACHwerk language school in 2005. Deborah developed the teaching method used at SPRACHwerk over many years of training young adult students for oral foreign language exams and is convinced that it is the fastest and most effective way to help learners achieve fluency in a foreign language.
Karen Linke
French
Karen hails from Geneva in French-speaking Switzerland. An art-school graduate with a degree in photography, she shifted her professional focus in 2010 to the teaching of French as a Foreign Language with an emphasis on general French, applied linguistics, conversation courses and business French. In 2011 she began teaching at SPRACHwerk, where she takes great pleasure in giving her students the knowledge they need to be able to function in French in their everyday and professional lives.
Nuri Arslan
Turkish
Nuri is from the Antalya Province in Southwestern Turkey on the Mediterranean Sea. He studied law and worked as a lawyer in Istanbul before moving to Germany in 1992. Since then, he has worked as a self-employed language teacher, including at the Leo-Baeck Foundation. He’s been a member of the SPRACHwerk team since 2011. As a teacher, Nuri radiates warm-heartedness and patience. He summarizes his philosophy as a language teacher in the following words: “When you learn a new language, you become yet another person”.
Ander Arrizabalaga
Spanish (Castilian) /
Basque
Born in San Sebastián (Spain) and raised bilingually in Basque and Spanish, Ander graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of the Basque Country in 2014. Subsequently, he studied and worked in the United Kingdom for several years. Through learned three foreign languages himself, he discovered his passion for teaching languages and getting to know different cultures through them. He obtained a Master’sdegree in teaching and taught both English and his native Basque in Spain until he decided to move to Germany. Since his arrival in Berlin, he has dedicated himself to teaching foreign languages to students of all ages. He joined the team at SPRACHwerk in 2019.
Valentina Ungaro
Italian / English
Valentina was born and raised in the north of Italy, where she attained a Master’s degree in Foreign Languages and Literature. Passionate about both literary multilingualism and language pedagogy, she has been studying and researching in the field of Comparative Literature since 2005 while working as an academic translator and language teacher in various educational settings. She spent several years living in Athens and Budapest, where she worked as an Italian and English teacher. She is currently a PhD candidate in Literary and Cultural Studies at the Justus-Liebig University of Giessen. Since 2015 she has been teaching Italian and English at SPRACHwerk with great passion, wit and skill.
